“I can’t do this.” Okrus shook their head, panicking at how close they had come to mating with a human. They stripped him off! They were the one taking the lead!

“That’s okay.” Ryan put his hands up with an understanding smile. “I’m happy to wait. Don’t worry.” His damn smile drew more sadness from Okrus.

He felt so good to touch...and wanted to do so again. Ryan was so patient and kind, and he looked soft to touch. His hair was a strange but pleasant sensation on their fingertips. What would the rest of him feel like? Okrus raised their right hand as if to cup Ryan’s smooth cheek, but then they shook their head and snapped their hand back down. No! I’m getting worried now because you seem upset. Please don’t be upset, Okrus.”

“I can’t.” They shook their head, reached down to collect their discarded mask, and started to back up towards the door. “I can’t do this.”

“What? Sex?” Ryan sensed the ground between them becoming very thin. Like it would shatter under foot at any moment and he wouldn’t be able to reach them anymore. “We don’t have to have sex. We’ve only just started dating. That’s fine.” Okrus palmed their own face, their shoulders trembled, and their back bumped up against the door. I can’t do this. I need to get away from him. He’s being too understanding, and now he’s getting upset, and I can’t stand it.

“It’s not just the sex, Ryan.”

“It’s not?” He held his elbows and felt his eyes begin to water.
